In the wake of the financial crisis of 2009, the collapse of the lending market, and Occupy Wallstreet protests, there came a new wave of pressure on the banking industry for increased transparency with their customers. Tackling this head on, Citizens wanted a website that would help educate their customers on overdrafts and how they can happen o just about anybody. To be clear, understanding overdrafts IS complicated. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that decides which charges get deducted and in what order. Something as simple as giving a hotel a debit card to put on hold until check out can cause a balance to go into the red when a prescheduled bill also rolls in at just the right time. This site helps explain overdrafts using illustrations, examples, charts and graphs. It also explores the options a Citizen’s bank customer has for their overdraft protection and allows them to demo changing their options around.
